Moving forward bills should arrive approximately 30 days apart.

With the revision of our meter reading schedule, some customers could receive a first bill with a longer or shorter number of days billed than normal.  If you notice a different amount due than for your typical bill, please review the number of days billed.  This should only affect the first bill.

Yes, when you receive your first bill from MCWD, you will have the information needed to sign up for bank draft with MCWD.  For financial information protection purposes, you must sign up for bank draft with MCWD even if you have previously done so with HU.

No, water will continue to be billed on a tier system. If you refer to the back of your current Huntsville Utilities (HU) bill, the rates and tier system are listed for your review. This information is also available on our website under 'Water Rates and Fees'. Your new bill will also continue to have this information available.

This transition will increase our operational efficiency and will not lead to a rate change.

The source of your water will remain the same; there will be no change in your water service; the billing/payment process is the only thing that is changing.

Please update your information with HU. Your account information will be transferred to MCWD by HU prior to the billing transition which will occur in March.

We will be accepting checks, cash, debit/credit cards, automatic drafts, payments by phone, online banking and other electronic methods.

Yes, please note the new payment address when you receive your new water bill from MCWD. If you are not planning to use the online bill payment or automatic bank draft options, your payment can be mailed to MCWD, PO Box 1508, Normal, AL 35762.

This change will establish water service and billing through one entity instead of two. Previously, your bills came from Huntsville Utilities (HU) while Madison County Water Department (MCWD) was your water service provider. Now, instead of getting a bill from HU, it will come from MCWD. This will allow MCWD to provide more timely resolutions and more efficient customer service because the customers will be communicating directly with the water supplier instead of working with or relying on a 3rd party.

In addition to the customer service aspect, we will be able to utilize the water system and curb water loss more efficiently. These operational advantages will continue to benefit customers over a long timeframe. The current meter reading data does not allow granular analysis of water sold in a specific area. 

Managing our meter reading and billing in-house allows us to create flexible District Metered Areas. We can manage these District Metered Areas to analyze the water going into the pipe network and the water being sold out of that same pipe network over a certain amount of time. We will use this information to better and more quickly identify areas that may have leaks or other operational issues.
