Location: The project is situated at the intersection of Jeff Road, McKee Road, and Will Raby Road, extending approximately 250 feet in all directions from the intersection. This location will also serve the proposed school, which is approximately 0.75 miles west along McKee Road.

Project Description: The project aims to enhance the intersection where Jeff Road, McKee Road, and Will Raby Road meet. At present, Jeff Road has continuous traffic flow, while McKee Road and Will Raby Road are regulated by stop signs. The proposed upgrade involves constructing a single-lane roundabout at this location, with the roundabout positioned at the center of the current intersection. To accommodate larger vehicles, truck aprons will be added around the roundabout.

Need for Project:

This intersection poses significant safety risks due to a combination of factors. High travel speeds along Jeff Road, coupled with its horizontal curves, make it difficult for drivers to navigate safely. Additionally, the eastbound approach on McKee Road suffers from limited sight distance, further complicating the ability of drivers to assess when it’s safe to cross the intersection. These conditions often result in vehicles misjudging gaps in traffic, leading to right-angle collisions.

By converting this two-way stop-controlled intersection into a roundabout, traffic on Jeff Road will be naturally slowed, reducing travel speeds, and minimizing the risk of high-speed collisions. The roundabout design will also improve safety by eliminating the need for vehicles on McKee Road and Will Raby Road to cross at dangerous right angles, offering smoother, safer transitions for all directions of traffic. This will ultimately create a more controlled and predictable environment, significantly reducing the likelihood of accidents.
