Swimming Pools and Spas within Madison County are required to comply with these minimum codes 2018 ICC ISPSC (International Swimming Pool and Spa Code), 2017 NFPA 70 NEC (National Electrical, Code, 2018 ICC IEC (International Electrical Code) and if applicable IBC (International Building Code)

  • If applicable, provide the Pool Clearance letter from the health department if the site has a septic system. Contact Savanah West via email: Savanah.West@adph.state.al.us or 256.533.8743.
  • Submit complete set of construction plans one (1) set residential or two (2) sets commercial plus one (1) electronic PDF copy. (Residential pools may submit electronically)
  • Submit a completed Swimming Pool & Spa Permit Application.
  • Submit the agreement to meet or exceed the Pool Barrier Requirements signed by the owner.
  • Residential & Commercial Projects-Submit Site plan of all features and structures within the pool area starting at the barrier. Please note all items and their approximate proximity to the water’s edge and note all items that will be bonded to the grounding system.
    • Pool Features and Equipment - diving board, steps, ramps, handrails, ladders, skimmers, lighting (inside and outside of pools), suction and circulation equipment, pump, water heater(s), approved waste disposal, safety equipment, signage, etc.
    • Other fixtures in the pool area – The primary structure (residence, office, community center, and the like), fence, pool house, accessory structures, fireplace, decks, paving, walls, etc. and any metallic item within 5 feet of the water’s edge.
  • Commercial Projects-Submit and receive approval of civil site plan from Madison County Engineering, office number 256.746.2925
  • Identify if the proposed project is within a defined FEMA flood zone area.  
  • Commercial Projects-Provide a one (1) page cost breakdown for the project.
