The Madison County Commission is applying to the Alabama Department of Transportation for an administrative, operating and capital assistance grant under 49 U.S.C. Section 5311 of the Federal Transit Laws, as codified. The operating grant will provide financial assistance for public transportation service for the residents of rural Madison County and to purchase goods and services needed to combat contamination related to COVID-19. The service currently operates Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. except on County holidays; all residents, including wheelchair users, must schedule service by 3:00 p.m. for the next day. Fares are $10.00 per round trip and $8.00 per one-way trip. There are no planned service changes.
The capital grant will also provide financial assistance to purchase four (4) wheelchair lift-equipped transit vehicles and COVID-19 related non-vehicle capital items for the Madison County’s public transportation service during FY2021.
Copies of the detailed service description, proposed changes, and project budget may be obtained at the transit system office at 819 Cook Avenue, Huntsville, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
A public hearing will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Charles Stone Building, Room 122, 819 Cook Avenue, Huntsville, AL for public comment.
In keeping with Alabama Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control guidelines, all attendees will be asked to maintain a 6-foot distance and will be required to wear a mask. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided to you.
