9th Annual Education Celebration

  • Date: August 17, 2019 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Madison County District Five Commissioner Phil Riddick is sponsoring the 9th Annual Education Celebration to benefit the thirteen public schools in District 5, which include Grissom High, Huntsville High, Challenger Middle, Hampton Cove Middle, Mountain Gap Middle, Whitesburg Middle, Chaffee Elementary, Challenger Elementary, Hampton Cove Elementary, Jones Valley Elementary, Mountain Gap Elementary, Whitesburg Elementary, and Weatherly Elementary.

This FREE event is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 9am – Noon at Grissom High School.  There will be inflatables, school mascots, a bluegrass band, dance studio and martial art performances, as well as booths from various schools and community organizations.  Berry’s Pizza and Hot Dogs will be on site selling food and drinks.  In addition to free admission, attendees will have the opportunity to support their favorite school and win great prizes.

During the event, attendees are encouraged to stop by the donations booth to support the District 5 school of their choice.  For every $1 in donations, the attendee will receive a ticket to enter into door prize drawings.  Donations will be delivered to the schools in the form of Staples gift cards for the purchase of expendables such as copy paper and ink cartridges. Commissioner Riddick will recognize the two schools with the highest total dollar amount of contributions per student with prizes of $500 and $250 respectively.

“This is both a thank you and reminder to the community, parents and citizens, that our great schools need their continued support,” says Madison County District Five Commissioner Phil Riddick.  “I believe the quality schools in South Huntsville are very important to families moving into our area and we need to celebrate and support them in any way possible.”

Last year, more than 1,500 participants enjoyed entertainment by local dance studios, martial arts schools, and a local bluegrass band.  Children enjoyed a bounce house and an inflatable slide.   All ages were interested in the Huntsville Police Department’s cruisers, SWAT vans and canine team; the Huntsville Fire Department’s hook and ladder truck and fire extinguisher simulator, HEMSI’s ambulance, and much more.
